The Soundscape
Schafer, R. Murray. The Soundscape: Our Sonic Environment and the Tuning of the World. Destiny Books, 1994.
Introduced the concept that every place has its own sonic identity, and coined the term soundmark for sounds that define a location the way a landmark does.
