SIXTEEN WEEKS
The process, week by week
Every week is logged here with references, activities, progress, reflections, and any attempts that failed and taught something worth keeping.
-
WEEK 01 · 2026-01-12 ~ 18
Concept pivot: from noise visualization to sound visualization
Reframed the project away from visualizing Singapore's noise and toward visualizing the sonic identity of each district, and defined the target audience.
-
WEEK 02 · 2026-01-19 ~ 25
Three pillars of the experience
Defined the three axes that structure the whole project. Audio visualization, virtual tourism, and embodiment interaction must operate as a single sensation, not as parallel systems.
-
WEEK 03 · 2026-01-26 ~ 2026-02-01
First prototype, first wall
Built the first working prototype as a Three.js web app. It ran but the three pillars hit three different walls in the same week, and all three walls came from the same place.
-
WEEK 04 · 2026-02-02 ~ 08
The migration
Rebuilt the whole application as a native Python desktop program in two days. Lost all the Three.js conveniences, gained direct access to the GPU. The safer option was not the right one.
-
WEEK 05 · 2026-02-09 ~ 15
Native prototype
First real week on the native stack. Modelled a 3D city in Blender, replaced the Fibonacci exterior with fluid motion, and started drafting the paper while the code kept moving.
-
WEEK 06 · 2026-02-16 ~ 22
Dissertation
A full week on the paper. Completed Introduction, Background, Literature Review across three fields, and Research Objective. Ten references in one week.
-
WEEK 07 · 2026-02-23 ~ 2026-03-01
Consultation
Integrated the PIC/FLIP simulation into the 3D city for the first time. Showed it at the group consultation and received three pieces of feedback pointing in the same direction. The word that came out of the session was simplify.
-
WEEK 08 · 2026-03-02 ~ 08
Particles and the station
Built the first real version of the PIC/FLIP particle system and the MRT station exterior in parallel. The simplify feedback from Week 7 shaped both decisions.
-
WEEK 09 · 2026-03-09 ~ 15
From station to taxi
The second group consultation said the design and the technology were finally in balance, then questioned the project's entry point itself. By week's end the MRT station was replaced by a first-person taxi interior, which the project still uses.
-
WEEK 10 · 2026-03-16 ~ 22
Bugis Interior Design & Audio
Recorded thirteen field sounds across Bugis, consulted a professional field recording artist, and started designing the Bugis interior around religious coexistence. The project's first district began taking its real shape this week.
-
WEEK 11 · 2026-03-23 ~ 29
Pic/Flip Particle Install
The PIC/FLIP particle system and the Bugis interior finally came together, with Week 10's audio driving particle behaviour. The project's title stopped being an intention and became a description of what was happening on the screen.
-
WEEK 12 · 2026-03-30 ~ 2026-04-05
Open Studios
Three days of exhibition at the school's Open Studios. Table setup with eight posters, a central demo station, and a teaser video. The first time the project was shown to people outside the development process.
-
WEEK 13 · 2026-04-06 ~ 12
Building the forest
The first week of East Coast Park. The Bugis system was copied across and rebuilt for a natural place. Procedural sky, pond with editable terrain, eight tree models. ECP had a body, even if not yet light or life.
-
WEEK 14 · 2026-04-13 ~ 19
East Coast Park
The ECP environment built last week was not yet alive. This week the sun started breathing, the god rays ran through the humid air, the park's own recordings replaced the Bugis placeholders, and the particles were rewritten to glow the way living things glow.
-
WEEK 15 · 2026-04-20 ~ 26
Catalogue of Making
The dissertation was done. The native app was working. The final deliverable that remained was a web site that could carry the project to anyone who opens a browser. A translation problem, not a development one.
-
WEEK 16 · 2026-04-27 ~ 2026-05-03
The Submission
The last week of the project. Three deliverables were finalised, checked, and submitted. The native desktop application, the web catalogue, and this journal. The work is now complete.
